Just my opinion of course. Their RPI won't climb that much even with 2 wins over Iona en route to a MAAC finals date vs Siena. I think they'd need to get into the 70s, and I'm not sure winning out until Siena will do that. And they have zero quality wins as well.

And though I'm not a Siena fan I do agree with your thoughts re their road to a potential Sweet 16.Guy Faloticohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12281265461941351052noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5014040350302121545.post-27526041233369991472010-02-22T20:14:30.870-08:002010-02-22T20:14:30.870-08:00To MTS -

No chance to win that game.
I'll stand by my theory that the only way for Siena to get past a 2nd round game is to go in with a No. 12 or No. 13 seeding position ... which is what it will have if it wins the MAAC tournament.

To Mulldog --
Of course an 8/9 game is a coin flip ... but it makes the second game, against a No. 1, a no-win situation.
Higher seeds win the greater percentage of games because they're the better team ... that's why they're seeded higher (except for the 8/9 match).
But, the debate here is about Siena's chance to advance past the 2nd round.
Won't happen if they're a 9 or 10 seed. Might happen if they're a 12 or 13.

And ... thanks for reading, and thanks for your interest.Steve Amediohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06557652851061527816noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5014040350302121545.post-85496135913997015062010-02-21T17:46:48.872-08:002010-02-21T17:46:48.872-08:0013 seeds only win 21% of the time whereas 8/9 game...13 seeds only win 21% of the time whereas 8/9 games are a coin flip. I can't find the numbers, but I'm pretty sure %-wise the higher the seed the higher the % of times that team makes the sweet 16. 12 seeds, for some odd reason, do seem to fare extraordinarily well though I will admit.Mulldoghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14648188394193148405noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5014040350302121545.post-20429605535701848772010-02-20T20:15:00.175-08:002010-02-20T20:15:00.175-08:00Steve, if Siena can win out (at Rider, Marist and ...Steve, if Siena can win out (at Rider, Marist and the MAAC tournament) they would be 27-6 with an RPI around 35. With two previous NCAA tournament wins I think Siena would probably still get a 10 or an 11 seed. Actually that is the best path to the sweet 16. A 12 or 13 gives you a really tough 1st round game.
